In 2004 we decided that the time had come to have another dog. As Jason had always wanted a Bearded Collie and I had always admired them from a far we joined the North East branch of the Bearded Collie Club to find out as much as we could about the breed. The idea was to wait 2 years or at least until Kesia our daughter was at school before purchasing our first Bearded Collie.
I shall never forget the first meeting of the North East Branch of the Bearded Collie Club that I went to Kay Farrier introduced me to this large hairy monster which came into the room, skidded across the floor, landed on my lap and that is where Kira stayed all evening. This was in January 2004. and the rest they say is history.
By the end of March we wanted a puppy. We both worked fulltime but I could get home at lunch times and at least 3 days a week Jason worked from home so once again Kay stepped in and told me about a litter of pups in the Midlands that was due very soon . Kay then introduced us to Jenny and Richard Felton (Kittistone).
It wasn’t long before
we were heading down the M1 to the Midlands
along with “Our CV” and of course Kesia to meet Richard, Jenny and the
puppies. We had a lovely evening Kesia was then age 3 and behaved impeccably
(Thank Goodness) and Richard and Jenny agreed that we could have a pup.
It was a few weeks later that Kay and I went to choose Mollie (Kittistone Isle
of Wolves) and in June 2004 she came home to live with us in the North East.
At Crufts in 2005 we
had moved to Devon I wanted another Beardie
(there are not many Bearded Collie owners with one they always come in 2’s).
Once again Kay stepped in and introduced me to Jackie James (Charncroft) Jackie
told me that she had one brown bitch left and would like it to go to show home.
That April Charncroft Chianti came to live with us and quickly became a member
of the family
I am a Committee member of the West of England and South Wales Branch, I am also a committee member of the Bearded Collie Club and Jason is now Membership Secretary.
Beardie’s have taken over our lives Mollie and I go to obedience class once a week with Ruby joining as soon as Mollie goes into intermediate class.
We are hoping that both girls will pass there junior working tests this year
We are also starting Agility at the end of February more for Ruby’s benefit then anyone else she is a very intelligent bearded collie that needs “Stuff” to do.
I/We have made some lovely friends and I must say a big thank you to Kay for making it all possible Yvonne and Peter Fox for their friendly advice Debbie Glaspool who is the fountain of all knowledge, Alison for the daily emails and now Roni too!
There is also Paula
who is also an on line “Agony Aunt” who gives me instant replies when there is
something else I don’t understand there are numerous others - Thank you
Jane and Jason Scott
